Challenge Without Hesitation
Beyond 4,000 meters, the air thins and breathing grows labored.
Climbing is hard enough, but one wrong step
Can send you plunging into a crevasse—a sheer glacial abyss.
With every step forward, you release more breaths than steps you take.
Ragged breaths surge up from your feet,
Through your lungs and heart,
And burst out through your nose and mouth,
Shaking the mountains of the Himalayas.
Your head pounds as if it might explode.
The road to the 8,000-meter summit is unbearably long and grueling.
One step takes a full minute—
Sometimes even longer than that.
These words come from "Challenge Without Hesitation Toward Your Dream"
By mountaineer Um Hong-gil.
There is no such thing as a smooth life in this world.
A life aimed at the summit is even more so.
If you refuse to take a single step because it is hard,
You will never reach the peak.
The story of Um Hong-gil,
The first person in the world to summit all sixteen 8,000-meter peaks,
Speaks for itself about how difficult it is to conquer the summit.
Storms are not something to fear;
They are opportunities for challenge.
