The Puzzle of Life Shaped by Pain

Beomseo, life is much like a jigsaw puzzle.
The fragments of disappointment and sorrow you hold in your hands right now—
you cannot yet know where they belong in the larger picture of your life.
Only with the passing of many years does their place become clear.
Even if it hurts for now, even if you feel you are falling behind others,
the hunger and the foolishness you experience today
will, in the end, become the very forces that enrich your life
and give it deeper meaning.
That is what I most want to tell you.

Life does not present itself as a finished picture.
For now, it may be incomprehensible—like a puzzle whose image only emerges after pain.
Each piece carries within it failure and frustration, disappointment and sorrow, a sense of lack.
Yet the pain of today is not a deficiency, but a growing ache along the path to completion—
no more than an unfinished piece that will one day fall into place.

You may feel disheartened for not getting into the university you hoped for,
or for being turned away from a job you longed for.
And yet, in searching for another path, you may unexpectedly discover a field that suits you far better—
and ultimately find success there.
What seems like a fleeting failure is but a painful piece along the path to fulfillment.
There may have been times when you worked part-time to pay your tuition,
living in a cramped space and resenting your circumstances.
But hunger and hardship, too, reveal—once the puzzle is complete—
how they deepened the texture of your life.

There may also have been moments when someone you trusted betrayed you,
your business failed, and even your health faltered—
times when life seemed to come to a standstill.
Yet those pains did not break your life;
they reoriented it.

The pieces that once hurt unbearably, the ones that seemed useless at the time,
are revealed, in the end, to have been essential to completing the whole.

Reflection of the Day

★ Just as a physician must cut deep into the flesh despite a patient’s cries of pain,
so too does life ripen through suffering. ★
